Channel 4 head of daytime Helen Warner is leaving the broadcaster to concentrate on her writing career.

It is the second high profile departure from the broadcaster in the last 24 hours, after C4 revealed yesterday evening that head of documentaries Hamish Mykura will be stepping down.

Warner has been with the channel for five years and ordered Four in a Bed, Live Deal or No Deal and a range of new programmes for the 11am slot.

Recent commissions include Phil Spencer: Secret Agent and The Renovation Game. Other daytime programmes that have been overseen by her include Deal or No Deal and Come Dine With Me.

Chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: “Helen has done a great job in daytime. Her many successes include reviving Coach Trip and turning it into a huge daytime hit and overseeing the launch of Come Dine with Me into the peak time schedule. ”

Warner joined the broadcaster as daytime editor in 2007 and became head of daytime in September of that year.

She said: “I will be sad to leave Channel 4 but having secured a wonderful new three-book deal, this is quite literally the start of an exciting new chapter of my life.”

Come Dine With Me executive producer David Sayer joined the daytime team earlier this year to work with Warner and off-peak commissioning editor, Sagina Shabaya.

It is not known who will take on Warner’s responsibilities following her departure.
