Broadcaster puts out an open invite to indies to pitch for 15 x 30 minute strand The Slot
Channel 4 has launched an initiative to foster new talent and enable independent production companies that have never worked with C4 to make a programme for the broadcaster, writes Penny Hughes

Indies are invited to pitch ideas for a new 15 x 3-minute strand called The Slot that will be broadcast after the C4 News at 7.55pm in 2002. Up to four films will run weekly.

Programmes, suitable for pre-watershed transmission, should have a 'real sense of purpose and a strong narrative', according to the channel. They can cover any subject but must not be date-specific. The channel's budget is£3,000 per three-minute film.

Successful companies will be invited to attend a seminar at C4 at which programme departments will outline how the broadcaster works.

Two-page proposals outlining the programme idea should be sent to The Slot editorial administrator Clare Hollywood before 28 December 2001.
