Tiger Aspect’s Empty Homes Show (working title) will be the next major multiplatform campaign for Channel 4, supported by a mobile app and online petition.
The series and multiplatform services were announced by C4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt at the launch of the autumn season.
George Clarke, an architect and ambassador for housing and homelessness charity Shelter, will call for a change in the government’s housing policy and highlight the 1 million empty homes in the UK, as part of the Tiger Aspectproduced series.
The idea follows on from The Big Fish Fight campaign, one of a number of high-profile multiplatform commissions, which allowed viewers to take part in the sustainable fishing campaign through online and mobile interaction.
However, C4 head of online Richard Davidson Houston recently said that around 90% of the broadcaster’s output received online programme support rather than full multiplatform commissioning.
“Only some ideas lend themselves to full multi-platform commissioning because they can be adapted to several platforms,” he explained.
Multiplatform commissions may include a bespoke website, online video episodes, storyrelated games or apps, extra content on the C4 website and story-related social media support, while programme support revolves around episode synopses, TX times and promotional activity.
As well as The Big Fish Fight, the broadcaster’s popular series The Million Pound Drop and short Street Summer: Rap Beatbox Choir had multiplatform commissioning integral to the idea.
