Channel 4 is launching new broadband and mobile services for flagship soap Hollyoaks as part of the broadcaster's seven-figure investment into new media.

It has partnered with Conker Media, the new media division of Hollyoaks producer Mersey Television, to re-brand the programme's website and develop a number of new services.

Most significant is the mobile-only Hollyoaks Weekender that offers subscribers the chance to watch new mini-episodes on Saturdays and Sundays. The 60-second clips feature storylines not seen in the main show and will be available via the C4 mobile portal.

Additionally, Hollyoaks Xtra is a video fanzine featuring the cast that includes behind the scenes footage while Hollyoaks Bitesize is a 60-second round up of each episode available in two forms each day via mobile or broadband.

Sheena Peirse, mobile editor for C4 new media, said the new services will offer a "more engaging experience" that will allow viewers to "interact with the programme and its characters whenever and wherever they are".
