Dating reality format Playing It Straight is being remade for Channel 4 following its first outing in 2005.

The 8 x 60-minute Lion Television series is a set-up in which a single woman believes she is selecting from 12 eligible bachelors for a show called Dream Date. But presenter Jameela Jamil will reveal that some of the men are gay.

Over eight weeks, the girl will perform challenges with the bachelors to work out who is really straight, with £50,000 at stake.

C4 commissioning editor David Williams ordered the series, which is moving to E4 for the new run.

“It feels like the perfect time to bring Playing It Straight to a whole new E4 audience – a generation of more buff boys with a liking for moisturiser than ever before, making the task faced by our lovely lady trickier than ever,” said Williams.

Joff Powell and Simon Welton are executive producers and Phil Harris will series produce. The show will air next year.

It follows E4’s recent commission of dating series Love Shaft, which is being made by Lucky Day.
