Channel 4's first chief executive Sir Jeremy Isaacs fired a damning broadside against the channel this week, claiming it is 'short-changing' older people in favour of younger viewers, writes Colin Robertson.
Isaacs told delegates on Thursday (19 October) that the channel's 'obsession with the under-30s' was 'narrowing' the content base of the channel to the detriment of older viewers.

While he admitted C4's news and film output was still good, Isaacs blamed the drive to become a major commercial company for the change. 'Marketing people are telling programme people what to do. They should take their hands off and let the programme makers decide.

'I never wanted C4 to be a commercial channel. Nowadays they've so much money they don't know what to do with it,' said Isaacs.
