A British patient’s ground-breaking multiple sclerosis medical trial will be recorded for a Cutting Edge documentary.
Ricochet Television has been commissioned to make hour-long doc Patient 31 (w/t) for the Channel 4 strand.
The film will follow libel lawyer Mark Lewis, who represented 180 hacking victims of the phone hacking scandal, as he embarks on revolutionary stem cell trials in Israel.
The journey will either end in a medical breakthrough and Mark’s recovery or the continuation of his gradual decline.
The film explores Mark’s hopes for the trial and its ongoing impact on his quality of life and emotional well-being.
Laurence Turnbull will executive produce while David Modell will direct.
The film was commissioned by C4 commissioning editor Alisa Pomeroy, who said: “This film will provide insight into the extraordinary emotional rollercoaster ride that is a medical trial where so much is riding on the outcome.”
Turnbull added: “Mark has had a remarkable career as a lawyer, he continues to work despite his condition, and is determined to flight this slow degenerative disease. Whatever the outcome, this will be the most important year of his life and it’s a privilege to be on the journey with him.”
