Peter Kosminsky, the writer and director of new Channel 4 drama The Promise, will take part in a live web chat after the first episode on Sunday.

It forms part of a range of additional online content that has been built around the new drama serial, in a bid to promote debate around the programme.

The Promise is the first C4 drama to have a “Twitter tracker” commissioned for it.The tracker will aggregate tweets about the programme if they include the hashtag #c4thepromise.

The four-part drama follows, Erin, a young woman retracing her grandfather’s footsteps in modern Israel and discovering the part he played in the British peace keeping force in what was then Palestine after World War II.

Other content on The Promise website includes behind the scenes footage from Israel and a piece written by C4 News international editor Lindsey Hilsum.

Multiplatform drama and film commissioner Hilary Perkins ordered the Twitter tracker and said: “We wanted to openly reflect the varied opinions and online debate around The Promise and create a hub on Channel4.com.

“This is a first for Channel 4 drama and we hope that viewers of The Promise are inspired to go online and talk about it.”

The Twitter tracker was built by digital agency Nixon McInnes and the channel4.com/thepromise site is produced by C4 Online senior producer Jodie Morris.
