Bedlam Productions, the indie behind Oscar winning film The King’s Speech, has had a follow-up documentary on George VI picked up by Channel 5.
The Kings Speech: Revealed features Mark Logue, the grandson of the king’s speech therapist, uncovering the historical story behind the film via a series of letters and diaries.
Footage from the film will be cut with archive and interviews to help build the story of Logue’s discovery of his grandfather’s work.
John Hay, commissioning editor for factual at C5 said the doc included a raft of exclusive information.
“It’s exactly the kind of high-quality, popular history programming which Channel 5 has built a reputation for,” he said.
Bedlam’s exec producer Simon Breen added, “The historical genesis of the story and the rich documentary evidence of the relationship between Lionel Logue and Bertie really suit the Revealed strand.”
The hour-long film, which will air in May, is exec produced by Bedlam’s Simon Egan and Breen.
