Channel 5 is planning to build on some of its biggest home-grown brands as it aims to make content and talent work harder.

Shows including The Gadget Show, Fifth Gear and The Hotel Inspector could be in line for expansion, and C5 commissioners are understood to be open to ideas on developing the brands.

Last week, the broadcaster announced it had commissioned Fresh One to produce 6 x 60-minute The Hotel Inspector spin-off The Restaurant Inspector. But it is thought that factual commissioner Ian Dunkley is also eyeing other vehicles for hotelier Alex Polizzi.

Neil Duncanson, chief executive of North One Television, said it was developing a Gadget Show spin-off with two of the show’s presenters that could start production as early as this summer.

However, a spokeswoman for the network said: “There are no current plans for any direct spin-off shows from our flagship brands.”

Other content announced in the first C5 slate under Richard Desmond includes Tiger Aspect’s 2 x 60-minute Justin Lee Collins - Living In Las Vegas, and an 8 x 30-minute spin-off of Chinese Food In Minutes, called Mexican Food Made Simple.
