Dave Berry is to host a Channel 5 music entertainment show and Fresh One will make a spin-off of The Hotel Inspector as part of a raft of new programming from the channel.

The XFM DJ will front Gallowgate TV-made The Beat Goes On, which will test the music knowledge of two teams through five challenges, combining singing, dancing and questions.

Meanwhile, UK restaurants will be bracing themselves for a visit from The Restaurant Inspector. The 6 x 60-minute series, made by Fresh One Production, will feature The Ivy’s director Fernando Peire helping turnaround an eatery in dire need of help, in a format similar to The Hotel Inspector.

It follows news of lesbian series Candy Bar Girls (working title), which will lift the lid on the lives and loves of staff and punters at Soho’s iconic Candy Bar. The 6 x 60-minute series is produced by Lion Television.

Jeff Ford said the new content reflected C5’s aim “celebrate the fun side modern Britain”.

The director of programmes added that C5 will back its biggest brands, including The Gadget Show and Justin Lee Collins, and seek to bring a younger audience to the station.

Essex Jungle

C5 will uncover exotic animals that have taken up residence in Essex for Special Edition Films-made Essex Jungle. It will cast light on the crocodiles living in Romford and tarantulas in Thurrock as it is revealed that more reptiles and other exotic beasts live in the county than cats and dogs.

Walking the Amazon

Ginger Production’s will follow former soldier Ed Stafford on his journey to become the first man to walk the length of the Amazon River in South America.

Mexican Food Made Simple

An 8 x 30-minute spin-off of Chinese Food in Minutes, which will be hosted by former Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers. The cookery show will be produced by Blink Films and will be sponsored by Mission Foods.

Supersize Grime

A 6 x 60-minute series lifting the lid on Britain’s dirtiest clean ups. The HCA Entertainment-made show will feature extreme and complex cleaning jobs in tower blocks, sewage systems and a fishing trawler.

Justin Lee Collins – Living In Las Vegas

Justin Lee Collins’ latest 2 x 60-minute outing for C5 will take him to gambling mecca of Las Vegas, where he will meet a cross section of its people, from the homeless to the high rollers. The series will be produced by Tiger Aspect.

So You Think You Can’t Drive

Matchlight will produce a new series examining a number of drivers who have battled to pass their tests, but are now terrified to take to the road. It will follow them as they try to conquer their fears and become better drivers.

Tarsier Towers

An Artists in Motion wildlife series, focusing on humans’ smallest and most mysterious relative, the tarsier.

Furthermore, Tiger Aspect will make Paul Merton’s Great Escapes - the Have I Got News for You panellist’s latest travelogue. This time, Merton will discover some unusual retreats for the 6 x 60-minute series.

Factual strand Extraordinary People will also return and include a focus on one of the world’s fattest men and a Zimbabwean girl, with a life threatening tumour in her face.
