Minimum height restriction meant a tight squeeze working around the venue’s central score board

French aerial filming specialist XD Motion managed to cover the finals of the CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men’s volleyball tournament using its XFly 3D cablecam system, despite very little working space.

The project, for L’Equipe TV, was “exceptionally difficult from a technical perspective,” said XD Motion CEO Benoit Dentan, due to the federation’s specification of the minimum height the system could fly and the fixed height of the venue’s central score board.

Dentan said: “This challenging specification meant we only had a 1m clearance for the system to work in. We only managed to achieve this job through our lengthy rigging experience and bespoke safety software. This event was the first time a 3D cablecam had been used on EuroVolley and both the client and venue were delighted.”
