The Good Wife producer CBS Studios is to begin making shows for online streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon.

The production arm of the broadcaster makes TV shows such as Under The Dome and Elementary, but has yet to win an OTT original commission.

On its latest earnings call, CBS chief executive Les Moonves said: “Shortly, you’re going to hear us being in business with some of the SVODs with original programming. There’s still a great deal of growth. I think we have over 30 shows in production, and that’s only going to grow.”

CBS will continue to roll out its shows on Netflix and Amazon internationally.

“The international business continues to grow substantially. One of the things that has changed obviously is the great expansion internationally of both Netflix and Amazon. So it becomes a much more competitive marketplace in just about every one of the international territories.

“You’re seeing huge international numbers, bigger than I’ve ever seen before,” added chief operating officer and prinicipal financial officer Joseph Ianniello.

CBS has also ruled out a bid for international news network CNN.

The Hollywood studio and broadcaster considered the opportunity after Fox lodged an $80billion bid for Time Warner that would not have included the news network for regulatory reasons.

However, CBS chief executive Les Moonves said that the “numbers that they were throwing around were sort of silly.

“We would be a logical place since we don’t have a cable news network. We thought about it. We talked about it,” he said, speaking to investors on its latest earnings call.

“It’s something that’s not going to happen. So it becomes irrelevant,” he added. “We’re pretty happy with our assets right now.”
