C4’s Child Genius enlightened an audience of 2.1m on its first outing on Tuesday as the second instalment of Dates lost half a million viewers.

Channel 4’s new competitive format to find the country’s brightest child passed its first outing test.

The start of Wall to Wall’s four part series, produced in conjunction with Mensa, added to the 12 month slot average of 2.02m (8.48%). Despite coming fourth in the 9pm slot it largely maintained an audience around 2m throughout the programme.

It was followed by the second instalment of Bryan Elsely’s Dates which was watched by 1.28m (6.97%) between 10pm-10.30pm, according to Barb data supplied by Attentional. It lost 500,000 viewers compared to the first episode, which was shown on Monday night.

Frankie (BBC1) 9pm-10pm
3.99m (18.2%)

The penultimate episode of the nursing drama won the 9pm slot building on last week’s audience of 3.91m (18.23%). However, despite winning the slot it continued to be significantly down on the 12 month slot average of 5.15m (21.61%).

Dirty Britain (ITV) 9pm-10pm
2.28m (10.43%)

The second and final episode of the programme examining cleanliness in various locations around the country built on the first episode, which attracted 1.76m (8.26%).  Neither episode managed to meet the 12 month slot average of 3.99m (16.47%).

Town with Nicholas Crane (BBC2) 9pm-10pm
1.36m (6.2%)

Crane visited Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, for the last episode of the series which also saw him visiting Huddersfield, Saffron Walden and Oban. It was the lowest rating episode of the current series, which averaged 1.63m (7.24%) across the run. 

Gibraltar: Britain In the Sun (Channel 5) 8pm-9pm
1.66m (7.88%)

The start of the six-part series following ex-pats living in the British Overseas territory added viewers to the 12 month slot average of 1.65m (7.79%).
