Children’s media rights business Chorion has sold its first two properties to its former chairman Waheed Alli.

The Octonauts and The World of Beatrix Potter have been bought by Alli’s new venture Silvergate Media for an undisclosed sum, following a number of bids from other parties.

Both properties are in active production, and it is understood Chorion was keen that the new owner be able to continue investing in the brands to exploit them further.

They mark the first two assets to have been disposed of as part of a firesale overseen by consultants DC Advisory.

Broadcast previously reported that the firm was likely to sell its IP in individual chunks, rather than as a whole, to maximise returns.

There are still a number of properties that Chorion is looking to shift including Famous Five, Mr Men and Little Miss and Noddy. The company also owns a majority stake in the rights to Agatha Christie, meaning any Poirot or Miss Marple productions could be affected.

It is understood that there has been “unprecedented“ interest in several of the rights.
