Clear Post Production has spent£650,000 on doubling the size of its Soho premises. According to managing director Greg Caplan, most of the money has gone on building new suites, restructuring the offices and buying kit. Clear bought more space in its Great Marlborough Street office in September last year.

The company now has five suites in the new half of the building - an HD Flame, a Flame, two Infernos and a Smoke. A new 3D department has been set up in place of the original suites. The six-strong team can go up to 12 if required.

Clear has also shown an increase in profit and turnover in the past 12 months and Caplan said that he believed the company was bringing in money for several reasons. "We've done a couple of sexy movies. I also do not believe that high-end compositing has shrunk but the mid range of the market has dropped dramatically. We've also got a good spread of business so we're not dependent on one type of job."

He added that in order to cut costs for both clients and the post house he had to "pay a lot of attention to workflow, and the way we use multiple suites and talent on jobs. We promoted people to junior ops who are permanently working on jobs, so getting ahead. This is good for training and for us, and it's cheaper than poaching someone."
