Media tycoon Richard Desmond today unveiled details of a new lottery game to be drawn on a major TV channel to raise money for health causes.
The chairman of Northern & Shell, owner of Channel 5 as well as the Daily Express and OK! magazine, outlined plans for a Health Lottery that is designed to provide extra cash for health charities across the country.
The game will be launched later this year, offering “life-transforming” cash prizes each week, and in the process helping to donate millions of pounds to health-related projects across Britain, a spokesman said.
The donations, administered by an independent charitable trust and with beneficiaries chosen by local health interest groups, will fund health-related causes that fall outside the remit of the NHS, he added.
Tickets will be available from retailers across Britain and online costing £1, with 20.5p from each ticket going to health-realted charities across the UK.
Although not confirmed, it is more than likely that the lottery draw will air on C5.
