The forthcoming US remake of The Inbetweeners is to be sold around the world by DRG.

The distributor has picked up the rights to the 12-part show, which is set to launch on MTV in the US in 2012, and will be looking to secure pre-sales at Mipcom in Cannes next week.

The teen sitcom is based on the E4 series created by Bwark Productions that ran for three seasons and has scored success with a feature film this summer.

The first episode of the US version has been written by Brad Copeland (My Name is Earl), who will executive produce alongside Aaron Kaplan and creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris.

Director is Taika Waititi (Flight of the Conchords).

The deal was brokered by George A Cheeks, EVP and co-general counsel at Viacom Media Networks, with David Tripodi, VP of business and legal addairs at MTV Interantional, and Rob Kirby, head of legal and business affairs at DRG.
