Live football has come to the iPhone for the first time with an application from Five.

All of Five’s Thursday night UEFA Europa League fixtures for this season will be available live and in full screen on the iPhone and iTouch, kicking off with tomorrow’s match (1 October) between Celtic and Rapid Vienna. It will also offer highlights of each week’s competition.

Five is making the app available for a one-off fee of £3.99. It developed the service with web TV specialist Livestation.

Five’s head of digital media Jonathan Lewis, said the service “exemplifies Five’s ambition to extend the reach of our long-form, ad-supported video content to as many platforms as possible, with the aim of generating additional incremental advertising revenues.”
