Five is staffing up its digital division with the creation of eight new roles as it aggressively expands its own services and targets wider content distribution.

The broadcaster is hunting for a managing editor, reporting into its digital controller Jonathan Lewis, along with a range of dedicated video-on-demand roles.

Five is aiming to drive its user base, traffic figures and video views across the broadcaster’s network of sites.

It’s keen to develop on-demand video service Demand Five, which is distributed across sites including YouTube, Seesaw and TV.com, along with its own five.tv, FiveFWD, Holy Soap and Milkshake portals.

The bolstered team will also extend the level of content syndication further as Five pursues a broad distribution strategy.

During its annual results in March Five said it served an average of 1.3 million long-form content streams each month, up from 300,000 in 2008. It saw over 50 million pieces of content served from its portfolio of sites in 2009, up from 12.6 million the previous year.
