DriveTribe, the online motoring project established by the former Top Gear team, has secured almost £5m investment from 21st Century Fox.
Fox has ploughed £4.8m into the fledgling site, due to launch in November, weeks after it secured Series A funding from investment firms Breyer Capital and Atomico.
DriveTribe was founded by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, together with former Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman and Zeebox co-founder Ernesto Schmitt.
In August, the first raft of 13 ‘tribe leaders’ were unveiled – individuals who will curate channels featuring video, articles, social and interactive content, after over 2,000 individuals submitted bids.
Schmitt said that Fox had a track record of “extraordinary savviness and innovation”.
“We look forward to working with them on redefining how audiences discover and engage with content through the use of technology and community,” he added.
Fox Networks Group chief executive Peter Rice said: “We saw the DriveTribe platform and we were blown away by its ingenuity.”
