Spalding will be responsible for all European countries except for the UK and Germany, though he will lead the distribution and sale of formats from those territories to the rest of the continent.
He will also continue to manage the Asia Pacific region, where he has overseen the merger of indies Grundy Australia and Crackerjack into the Fremantle group and recently secured a deal with Japanese producer TV Man Union.
Doug Gluck, who previously oversaw Europe, as well as Australasia and Latin America, will step down.
“Simon is helping us expand into a number of new markets and will continue to play a vital role in pushing that forward,” said Fremantle chief executive officer Tony Cohen.
“However, we are also intensifying our focus on Europe at a time of increasing opportunity. Simon will relocate to Europe to take this business on.”
