WEDNESDAY: Frozen Planet’s audience felt the chill from The Jury, which steadied after losing more than 2m viewers on Tuesday.

The flagship wildlife show this week chartered the summer season at the North and South Pole and froze in an audience of 7.16m (28.98%) over the 9pm hour on BBC1 and BBC1 HD, according to overnight Barb figures supplied by Attentional.

It was down on last week’s series high audience of 7.93m (31.4%) when it was scheduled against Manchester City’s below par Champions League clash with Villareal.

The show faced stiffer competition from drama The Jury, which continued with 4.28m (17.33%) at 9pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, while another 169,700 (0.94%) watched on ITV1+1.  It was slightly up on Tuesday’s audience of 4.19m (17.41%).

In third position was the ninth instalment of Grand Designs, which constructed an audience of 2.03m (8.2%) over the 9pm hour on Channel 4. A further 326,800 (1.8%) watched on C4+1.

Elsewhere, the audience of 1.09m (4.4%) for Peter Jones: How We Made Our Millions on BBC2 at 9pm was not strong enough to hold off Big Brother, which entertained 1.28m (5.8%) in the same slot.
