US cable network FX has ordered a dark action horror drama called Lucas Stand from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.

The News Corp-backed pay broadcaster has closed a drama series script development deal for the project with Sutter, who will write and produce the show with former Hell on Wheels showrunner John Shiban.

Lucas Stand will be episodic with a serialised element and follows the quest of a damaged former special ops solider, who has been chosen to traverse time to hunt down and kill law-breaking demons from Hell. It will be produced by 20th Century Television Fox, where Sutter has an overall deal.

It is the latest project to come from Sutter, who last year produced documentary series Outlaw Empires for Discovery and was a writer on The Shield. He is currently developing Diva.Clown.Killer a dark half hour comedy for FX that tells the story of a 1980s rock diva and her dysfunctional son, who makes his living as a clown and assassin.

“I just sold a pitch to FX that is so fucking out there, it even scares me,” he tweeted last year.
