Gabby Logan is to front a BBC1 magazine show examining the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics as part of the corporation’s plans to increase sports participation across the country.
The presenter will front Inspire: The Olympic Journey, which will broadcast on one Saturday afternoon every month from 27 July – exactly a year since the opening ceremony in London.
The BBC in-house series will take an in-depth look at the stories behind the Olympic sports, exploring the big issues and discovering Great Britain’s most promising stars of the future.
The first episode will air from the Commonwealth Games site in Glasgow and feature an interview with Sir Chris Hoy, while Matthew Pinsent examines the true meaning of the Olympics legacy.
In addition, the BBC has pledged to work with sports bodies from across the UK to carry more information about getting involved in grass-roots initiatives around the country. The information will be carried on air and on online.
“The Get Inspired initiative will take advantage of the BBC’s role as the nation’s leading sports broadcaster, encouraging sports participation across the UK and providing viewers with tools to help get involved,” said BBC Sport director Barbara Slater.
Furthermore, Blue Peter is planning to launch a special sports badge, designed at encouraging children to create their own sporting legacy. The badge will be available between July and September.
