GMG Radio has ordered six major music documentaries from three indies. Smooth Operations will make The Pacific Coast Sound, a nine-part series about the influence of the US west coast on music over the years. It will air from 18 April.

Meanwhile, USP Content Production's From Cleethorpes to California is a two-part series on producer and song-writing legend Rod Temperton, who co-produced and wrote for Michael Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller. It will TX from 19 April. All Out Productions will make the eight-part Legendary Labels about record labels such as Motown, Virgin and Factory.

USP Content Production will also a two-episode special entitled Mamma Mia - The Real Story, to celebrate 10 years since the ABBA-themed stage musical first opened.

The musical was subsequently turned into a hit movie, starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.

It will air from 28 March.

Furthermore, the indie will make another two-episode special on pirate radio, to coincide with the release of the Richard Curtis movie The Boat that Rocked.

When Pirates Ruled the Airways will air on 4 and 11 May.
