Hat Trick and Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio are working on an adaptation of HG Wells’ The Time Machine to mark the 150th anniversary of the sci-fi pioneer’s birth.
Broadcast understands Sky is developing the series with Hat Trick and Mecurio, under the indie’s new sub-label HTM.
Mercurio will co-write the series with Chris Lunt, who penned ITV crime drama Prey.
The project is being conceived as a long-running returning series, following the adventures of an Edwardian time traveller.
Mercurio established HTM, which stands for Hat Trick Mercurio, last year as a joint venture with Mulville.
It has been set up to develop long-running drama series in the UK and the US and is understood to have a number of other projects in development.
Hat Trick has a long-standing relationship with Mercurio have joined forces in the past on medical dramas, Bodies for BBC3 and Critical for Sky 1.
The Time Machine was previously dramatised for US audiences by Sunn Classic Pictures and aired on NBC in 1978.
Hat Trick declined to comment and Sky had not responded at the time of publication.
