Michael Hill has been appointed managing director of online radio aggregator Radioplayer, ahead of its beta launch later this year.

Hill has been in charge of the project since May 2009 having previously held roles as Channel 4’s general manager and managing editor at BBC Radio 5Live.

Hill will now head up the service which brings together radio stations from Absolute, BBC, Global and GMG Radio which are all developing the platform.

Listeners will be able to search for content by programme or genre and preset favourites as Radioplayer bids to grow the 4.1m hours of radio content streamed each year.

Hill, who will report into the Radioplayer board, said the service would help all stations to grow.

“Radioplayer will benefit stations of all sizes - from the largest BBC and commercial groups to the smallest community and student services,” he said.
