US gameshow 500 Questions is heading to ITV, which has commissioned a series from The Voice producer Wall to Wall.

500-Questions

The broadcaster is to air the 4 x 60-minute quiz next year.

The gameshow launched in the States on ABC in May. It delivered average ratings of around 5m as it was stripped across seven weeknights, and has been renewed by the Disney-owned network for a second series.

The show comes out of the Warner Bros group, of which Wall to Wall is a part. 500 Questions was created by Survivor creator Mark Burnett and Warner Bros non-scripted chief Mike Darnell. It is produced by Warner Horizon Television and Burnett’s One Three Media.

The format is a serialised take on the quiz genre with contestants moving from one episode to the next until they correctly answer 500 questions. However, if they answer three questions incorrectly in a row they are eliminated.

500 Question is the latest international entertainment format acquired by ITV after poached Dutch talent contest The Voice from the BBC. The broadcaster is also piloting NBC Universal’s Quiz Up, based on the popular app.

The Wall to Wall series was commissioned by ITV entertainment commissioning editor Asif Zubairy. It will be exec produced by Wall to Wall’s head of entertainment Moira Ross and series produced by Laura Turner, who recently worked on C4’s Fifteen To One.

Zubairy called 500 Questions an “edge-of-the-seat” quiz show.

Wall to Wall chief executive Leanne Klein added: “There was a big buzz around 500 Questions when it aired in the USA this year.  I can’t wait to bring television’s toughest quiz to the UK.”
