Jazz FM has moved quickly to fill the hole left by former programme controller John Baish, appointing Bright FM programme controller Mark Walker to the role as part of a wider overhaul of the station, writes Jon Rogers.Baish's former role has now been split with Walker taking responsibility for the London licence, while former station manager for the north-west Steve Collins has taken on the role of programme controller for that licence.Jazz owner GMG Radio has also raided Clear Channel Radio Sales, appointing sales director Carter Tanner as deputy managing director for Jazz FM's London licence. At the same time, the station has revamped its schedules bringing in Paul Coyte as its new London breakfast presenter. Coyte has replaced Robbie Vincent who left the station after being on sick leave since October.Nicky Horne has also been brought in to present a four-hour show on the London licence from 15.00 every weekday. Listeners in London will also now be able to hear Tony Blackburn's Big Soul Night show - previously only available to Jazz FM's north-west listeners.GMG Radio group programming director John Simons told Broadcast that the amount of 'pure' jazz - as opposed to smooth jazz - played on the station would increase. The moves are examples of GMG's plans for the station's new schedule as part of its efforts to increase its listeners by 1 million by 2006 (Broadcast, 11.12.02). Baish quit last month after six years at Jazz.
