Brings together entertainment and daytime

Jo Street

The BBC has brought together its entertainment and daytime commissioning in Scotland and appointed Jo Street to the newly-created role.

Street becomes commissioning editor of entertainment and daytime, based in Glasgow. She was previously daytime and early peak commissioning editor for the nation.

The reshuffle follows the departure of executive editor of entertainment commissioning Alan Tyler, who Broadcast revealed was leaving the corporation after 12 years earlier this month

According to the BBC, Street’s new role will simplify the commissioning process for producers and help develop “stronger links” between commissioning teams.

The entertainment and daytime teams recently collaborated on Hindsight Productions’ gameshow Letterbox, which was commissioned by Street and was stripped in a 6.30pm weekday slot.

Street, who will take up the role on 1 August, has been based in Scotland since 2008 and has worked on series including Robot Wars, Homes under the Hammer, Antiques Road Trip and Eggheads.

She will now appoint an assistant commissioner, also based in Glasgow, as part of the BBC’s Content Commissioner Development programme.

She said that she couldn’t wait to “get stuck into the serious business of finding some brilliantly entertaining new shows”.

Entertainment commissioning controller Kate Phillips said: “Jo has a unique set of skills within not only entertainment and daytime but in other genres too and as an experienced developer, producer and commissioner with a passion for programming, I know she will excel in the post and make it her own.”

Dan McGolpin, controller of programming and daytime, added that Street was the “perfect appointment” for the role.

“She will continue her wonderful work with the creative community in Scotland and around the UK, now with a broader remit that will promote further collaboration between our entertainment and daytime commissioning teams,” he added.
