The ongoing story of acid burns victim Katie Piper is to be broadcast in New Zealand and Sweden following new sales by Mentorn International.
The distributor has sold Katie: My Beautiful Friends to TV3 New Zealand and Sweden’s TV4 for broadcast later this year.
Interest in the 4 x 60-minute series has also sparked negotiations in the US, France, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and Denmark.
It is currently airing on Channel 4, where it has generated overnight audiences of around 1.6m in a primetime Tuesday night slot.
It follows a one-off doc for C4’s Cutting Edge strand, titled Katie: My Beautiful Face, in which the former model waived her anonymity to share her story of assault and recovery. It recorded 3.45m viewers and a 13.9% audience share, the highest ratings for the strand in 2009.
It was later sold to broadcasters in 15 countries including US network ABC, Discovery Europe and Fuji TV Japan.
