Harris, EVS and Sony are among 80 firms that have signed the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) Lifelong Learning Manifesto.

It is hoped that the career development programme will address what the IABM described as a “chronic shortage of skilled technical resources in the global broadcast and media industries”.

Measures include fostering relevant studies and curriculum development with schools, colleges and universities, and maintaining an occupational map of career paths for technologists and engineers.

IABM director of education, training and employment Roger Crumpton said: “Every relevant employer, institution, association, and professional body can help address this issue through their own activities and by aligning themselves with others in an industry-wide campaign.”

Last month Crumpton revealed that one in five IABM members’ current quarter shipments had been affected by the skills shortage.
