SGO is planning to make the various post-production tools within its Mistika finishing system available as separate products.

Applications for grading, compositing, virtual reality editing, conforming and others will be spun out in order to give users the chance to either buy just one tool or combine the tools they need to create bespoke systems or workflows, the company said.

Each application will be made available at a reduced price and on a pay-as-you-go basis, widening the potential market for Mistika.

Unlike the full Mistika system, which runs on the Linux operating system, the individual products will be developed to run on Windows and Mac.

The first spun off products will be shown at NAB later this month. .

“The industry needs flexibility,” said SGO chief executive Miguel Angel Doncel.

“Workflows are different now from what they were ten years ago, even three years ago. Users need speed. Efficiency is essential. And they have multi-dimensional workflows.

“Currently, Mistika is sold as one tool that does everything but to address industry needs we are going to slice parts of it up into new products for specific tasks that can also be used as part of a bigger workflow.”
