Animated series Octonauts and Gaspard & Lisa are to air in the US following a deal between children’s indie Chorion and Disney.

The two pre-school series have been acquired by Disney Channel US to air next year on its Disney Junior channel.

Chorion has now sold the animated shows to international broadcasters including TF1 in France, ABC in Australia, RTE in Ireland, Discovery Kids in Latin America, MNet in South Africa, Yoope in Canada, RTP in Portugal, Disney in Japan and Truevision in Thailand.

Chorion will manage consumer products programs for both programmes globally.

Octonauts, which launched on CBeebies in the UK last October, has been recommissioned and the second series is already in development.

Geraint Marsh, senior vice president for television sales at Chorion, said: “The US is a key broadcast market and Disney Junior is the perfect home for both Octonauts and Gaspard and Lisa. It’s testament to the appeal of both series that the channel is showing such support to two of our new shows, and we are thrilled to be bringing them to audiences in America.”
