Hear Matchroom Multi Sport & World Nineball Tour CEO Emily Frazer discuss how she’s growing the sport of pool

Matchroom Multi Sport & World Nineball Tour CEO Emily Frazer returns to the Broadcast Sport Podcast, this time speaking at the Broadcast Sport Content Summit at dock10 Studios last month.
Frazer discusses how she’s using the Matchroom formula to grow the World Nineball Tour, the benefits of Matchroom’s in-house production team, the impact of the Netflix documentary about the company, and plenty more. You can listen to the full episode below, and subscribe to the Broadcast Sport Podcast on all major podcast platforms to hear more conversations like this.
Among the topics covered, Frazer reveals how Matchroom collaborates across its slate of different sports, which include boxing, darts, snooker, and more as well as the World Nineball Tour pool. “We all understand that our sports are really different,” she said. “We know that a lot of people come in and think, ‘Oh, why don’t they do this as a group? Why don’t they do that?’ It really doesn’t work. Our audiences are so different. The snooker audience is so different to the pool audience [for example]. We’re a lot more like the darts.”
However, that doesn’t mean that the organisation’s different divisions don’t learn lessons from each other. Frazer expanded, “We watch the darts. We’re watching the snooker. We’re seeing how the boxing is, and we’re so fortunate that we’re in this circle and you can pick up the phone. I love that I can pick up the phone to a Matt Porter, who runs the darts, and say, ‘What do you do in situations like this?’ We lean on situations like that.
There’s also a particular mindset that Matchroom aims to use across its sports. Frazer said, “I went and watched a netball game. I was bored out my brains and I thought, ‘How do I make it so I can sit here? So I want to go to hospitality before? Why do I want to tell my friends to come with me?’
“I treat it as though I’m the one always going.”
She added, “That’s essentially what we try to do. We’ll learn everything about that sport and we will not go to sleep until we think we’ve done an exceptional job and it’s successful. So I think that’s more the Matchroom formula, the people within it.”
You can listen to the rest of the conversation below, where Frazer goes into how she’s aiming to grow the World Nineball Tour to overtake snooker for global popularity, the effect of Netflix’s behind-the-scenes documentary following Matchroom, and plenty more.
