Second facility adds to Welsh company’s Cardiff base

Dragon Post Production Liverpool

Dragon Post Production has opened a second facility, in Liverpool.

Adding to its Cardiff base, the new post house will be run by commercial director Andy Evans, who has also worked as a producer on the likes of Judi Dench film Six Minutes To Midnight. It offers film & TV finishing services which include offline, online, grading, VFX, DIT, dailies and delivery, and is based at Hardman Studios in the city centre.

The facility includes a hero grading theatre run on DaVinci Resolve, with the first EIZO CG1 Prominence HDR monitor purchased in the UK as well as advanced panels, Super Micro 64 Core PC capable of 8K and a six metre 4K projection screen. There are also five multipurpose suites capable of being used for VFX or offline (on Avid, Premiere, or Resolve) and a DIT/data wrangling suite.

A Dolby certified Atmos theatre will be completed towards the end of the year, as part of a partnership with local audio specialist Onomatopoeia Post that will expand their sound services. Dragon is currently recruiting for VFX, but Evans is already working with two full-time colleagues, a colourist and post coordinator.

The new facility already has projects lined up, including Sister Group’s Diesel, and newly announced BBC drama The Cage, which is currently filming in the Liverpool City Region.

Dragon is hoping to take advantage of incentives for film and TV that have been introduced in Liverpool, including free location scouting, permissions liaison, parking, traffic control and more, funded by the Liverpool Film Office and Liverpool’s Flexible Growth Fund. There are also tax credits of up to 40% for independent film producers and 25% for larger productions.

Evans said: “By launching our new Liverpool facility, we are not only embracing the very best in post-production technology, which includes the UK’s first EIZO 4K HDR CG1 Prominence reference monitor, but also reaffirming our commitment to supporting the vibrant creative community of the North West. This expansion, alongside our well-established Cardiff studio, demonstrates our flexibility and dedication to delivering excellence - from blockbuster features to independent documentaries.”

Lynn Saunders, head of the Liverpool Film Office, added: “It is fantastic to have Dragon Post Production open their latest office in Liverpool, which will sure bring inward investment to the region. This will be their first base outside of Cardiff and is a welcome boost to Liverpool’s post-production offer, especially being based inside the newly re-purposed Hardman Studios, which we are excited to see develop into a thriving creative hub right in the heart of our city.

“Through working with Dragon Post Production and other local businesses, we’ll continue our work in exploring further opportunities for local people through employment, training and skills development. We wish Dragon Post Production and the team at Hardman Studios all the very best for their future in our wonderful city.”
