Post house Bumblebee has opened an external kit hire division at its London and Glasgow facilities.

Bumblebee, which is the post-production arm of Zinc Media Group, already offered these services to Zinc projects, but they are now available to any productions. Bumblebee already works on post for non-Zinc projects such as Russell Brand: In Plain Sight: Dispatches for Chanell 4 and Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island with Zara McDermott.

Jamie Gettings has joined the company as camera facilities manager to lead the offering, based in London and working with Glasgow’s head of post, Simon Lyell. Gettings has over 10 years’ experience working in camera and equipment departments, on both the production side for shows such as Britain’s Got Talent, The Undateables, Gadget Man and The Apprentice, and the in-house side at Procam and Vice Media where he was equipment supervisor.

Lyell said: “We’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of some of the most exciting work coming out of Zinc Media Group over the past few years, and this, coupled with the brilliant relationships forged externally, has enabled us to bring a new offering to our clients across the UK. We are excited to continue to expand our nimble, collaborative and conscious approach to post-production nationwide.”

Olly Strous, chief technology officer, Zinc Media Group, said: “After five years of offering kit hire internally, we’ve come to understand how powerful the combination of offering equipment, post-production and workflow expertise as a turnkey solution can be. It’s that simplicity that we are excited to bring to the market.”

Bumblebee’s move into kit hire comes after a tough period for the sector, which struggled during the commissioning slowdown. The likes of Presteigne Broadcast, ProCam Take 2 and Televideo are among those to have ceased trading in recent years.
