VFX studio JFX has appointed Matt Burn (pictured right) and Carl Godwin-Alvarez (pictured left) as creative technology supervisor and VFX supervisor respectively.

Burn has more than 20 years of post-production, CG and VFX experience, and more recently, he has focused on hands-on work with emerging generative tools across live projects.

In the newly created role, he will draw on his understanding of the range of available tools to improve the creative process, implementing workflows that simplify and streamline the pipeline.

Burn spent 17 years as CG artist and supervisor at Absolute Post, before joining Realtime as CG supervisor, overseeing VFX on The Winter King and Lockerbie: A Search for Truth.

In 2025, he rejoined Absolute as creative technologist, alongside his AI-led video work as ‘Oranguerillatan’, which saw him commissioned by Peter Gabriel to create the video for his track Olive Tree.

Godwin-Alvarez joins following 13-years at Absolute Post. His credits include MobLand, The Buccaneers and The Rig.

JFX launched 18 months ago and has been actively exploring how new technologies – including generative tools – can strengthen the way it works. Burn and Godwin-Alvarez bring the experience to help shape that work, combining creative leadership with a practical understanding of how emerging tools can support it.

Phil Greenlow, JFX managing director, said: “JFX prides itself on its strong artistic culture, and every hire we make is instrumental in maintaining that. It is with enormous esteem we welcome Matt and Carl to the team. Their values and ambitions perfectly align with the company’s mission, while their years of experience and unrivalled skillsets further strengthen JFX, not only in the creative solutions we offer our clients, but in making our studio as resilient and streamlined as possible.”

Burn added: “Working alongside a forward-thinking group of exceptionally talented people and being part of a team that is embracing how emerging technology can enhance our craft, is incredibly important to me. While JFX is a relatively young studio, the crew brings a wealth of industry experience, passion and creative skill that informs every single project we work on. It’s exciting to be part of that, and to help shape how new technology can become a meaningful part of the creative process.”

Godwin-Alvarez said: “Being part of the JFX journey offers the opportunity to work alongside such a talented, ambitious and collaborative team, while having the creative freedom to help shape both the company and the work we do. I’m excited to bring my own experience and ideas to the team, but equally, I’m looking forward to learning from the people around me and continuing to grow creatively and professionally.”
