The combination of the two companies enables them to pioneer new tools, facilitate creative collaboration, and drive the future of filmmaking, says Netflix
Netflix has merged its facilities Scanline VFX and Eyeline under the Eyeline brand.
The streamer says that by combining Scanline’s visual effects with Eyeline’s production capabilities and lab tools it’s “uniting two industry-leading teams under a single vision: to push the boundaries of what’s possible in production.”
Scanline was founded 36 years ago and has picked up a Scientific and Technical Academy Award for its proprietary fluid simulation software, Flowline. The VFX house has contributed work to high-profile productions including Stranger Things, Wednesday, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and The Woman in Cabin 10.
Meanwhile, Eyeline Studios formed in 2019 and focuses on virtual production and volumetric capture. Its technology was most recently showcased in the creation of Professor Orloff in Wednesday Season 2, Happy Gilmore 2 and the upcoming A House of Dynamite.
Eyeline also works on applying generative AI to production, including in Netflix’s Argentine sci-fi series The Eternaut.
The newly expanded Eyeline now combines nearly four decades of visual effects artistry with virtual production, AI-enabled tools, and advanced research.
Netflix said: “Merging Scanline VFX and Eyeline Studios under one brand enables us to pioneer new tools, facilitate creative collaboration, and drive the future of filmmaking for the most ambitious storytellers around the world.”
