Justin Bodle has bought back Power, the international production and distribution firm he founded in 1995.
Bodle acquired the firm, which was forced into liquidation in 2010, from South African media firm Sabido Group. He struck the deal through Purecom Entertainment International, the media investment firm he established earlier this year.
In the past six months, Bodle has also co-launched The Hot House, a production group that has backed indies including Steven D Wright’s Kerfuffle and Seriously TV, set up by Mentorn Media’s former specialist factual boss.
Power was previously one of the UK’s biggest players in drama mini-series and produced and distributed hits such as Paula Milne’s The Virgin Queen and Daniel Craig-fronted Archangel for the BBC, and ITV drama The Flood, which starred Robert Carlyle.
In 2009, a year before it went into liquidation, Power produced The Day Of The Triffids for BBC1, with Bodle serving as executive producer.
Bodle said he had plans to “transform” the business into a “21st century distribution business for the global marketplace”.
“The world has changed so much since I created Power,” he said. “I look forward to announcing the new strategy and new plans that will integrate what we’ve been doing over the past 18 months as we rebuild Power into a new 21st century distribution business for the global marketplace.”
Power will also return to drama production and Bodle said the company would be “working across all genres and re-establishing its strong ties with the advertising industry”.
The 100% buyout includes all rights and the company will continue to operate from Power’s existing headquarters on Gresse Street in London.
