Presteigne Broadcast Hire has responded to an increased demand for HD equipment by purchasing Canon HD Digi Super XJ field lenses worth £1m.

The lenses, all of which will be used by thus far unnamed broadcasters at this year's Olympic games in Athens, are dual format and can also be used on SD cameras. The order, comprising of one 100X, four 86X and four 72X field lenses, is part of London-based Presteigne's recent investment policy.

While Belgian outfit Alfacam is arguably Europe's leader in HD hire, Presteigne now feels that the growing demand for HD kit dictates that there will be more space in the market. Presteigne business development manager Andrew Murray, discussing the decision to invest in HD lenses, said: 'Although significant HD jobs only appear every couple of months, from companies such as Telegenic, Bow Tie and Visions, we want to be able to take advantage of any possibilities that may arise. Now is the time to extend our range of HD equipment to strengthen Presteigne's outside broadcast and sports coverage applications throughout Europe.'
