Around 1000 people will work on the event in Chengdu, China, this summer

World Games Chengdu 2

There are now less than a hundred days to go until the The World Games 2025 Chengdu take place, and host broadcaster International Sports Broadcasting is well underway in its preparations.

Around 1000 people will be involved in bringing the event to audiences around the globe from 7-17 August, across 18 production teams. Most of those will be from China, with teams from Colombia, Spain, and central Europe complementing this. There is also one all-female production team involved. Most kit will also be from China, with some specialist items brought across from ISB’s base in Spain.

In addition, some people will be sourced through partnerships with Sichuan University and Cardiff University. ISB is offering paid work experience on the event to 100-130 students from these universities, with 10-15 of those to come from the UK.

All 35 sports, from snooker to Muaythai, will be broadcast, with up to 20 simultaneous feeds at any one time. All the action will be shown live, except when a sport has multiple fixtures taking place at the same time.

Between six and 15 cameras will be used on each production, and ISB CEO Ursula Romero told Broadcast Sport to expect experimentation in the coverage thanks to an open attitude from federations and the event itself, “It is easier to experiment as you don’t get the pushback.”

While there are a number of broadcasters around the world who will show the World Games, the competition will also be shown through its OTT platform, TWGLive, in territories without an exclusive media rights deal - which means it will be available in the vast majority of locations. There are lofty ambitions for the service, with Romero noting, “Hopefully we eventually delete the need to sell rights.”

TWGLive, available at Live.TheWorldGames.org with a free account, will house live action, highlights, and video on demand content, including a daily magazine style show filmed at the Games. Viewers will be able to find out more about their favourite sports and athletes too, with links to bios and social media profiles available on the platform, as well as share their interest with friends through shareable clips.
