TNT Sports revisits Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League victory

TNT Sports has made a documentary, The Miracle of Istanbul: Liverpool 2005 to mark the 20 year anniverary of Liverpool beating AC Milan in the Champions League final.

The film will air on Sunday 25 May (9.45pm), on TNT Sports 1. It will also be available to watch on Discovery+.

The match saw Liverpool recover from three goals down to beat AC Milan on penalties.

The Miracle of Istanbul: Liverpool 2005 includes interviews with Rafa Benitez, Steven Gerrard Jerzy Dudek, Vladimir Smicer and John Arne Riise. Fans in the stadium that evening also offer their own recollections.

Benitez said: “That night in Istanbul will always hold a special place in our memories and our hearts. It is often forgotten how good that AC Milan side was. The game did not go the way anyone expected, but it was a night that no-one will ever forget.

“It is always special to re-live that occasion. With the thoughts of Stevie (Gerrard), John (Arne Riise), Jerzy (Dudek) and Vlad (Smicer), I know Liverpool fans will enjoy the documentary but I think this is a story that every football fan will enjoy and I hope we are able to get across our thoughts from that evening. It is one that will forever be remembered.”
