A woman with no brain who went on to gain three A levels is just one of the unique people lined up for a new Channel 5 science-based primetime strand, writes Georgina Lipscomb
The 8 x 30-minute strand, Extraordinary People, commissioned by deputy controller of factual Justine Kershaw, follows people who have 'extraordinary' abilities or disabilities that seem to defy science.Documentaries include a production from ZKK on a woman whose head contains no visible brain. It is executive produced by Kathy O'Neil and directed by Sarah Wallis.Uden Associates will tell the stories of a man with Tourette's syndrome who refuses to take medication and a five-year-old girl suffering from an ageing disease. Both are executive produced by Patrick Uden. Directors are Barnaby Peel and James Routh.Real Life Media Productions is producing two instalments of the show - including one on a man who has vivid dreams about future disasters such as 11 September. The other follows the free-diver Tanya Streeter as she attempts a new world record to become the world's deepest diver. Simon Schofield is executive producer.Extraordinary People will air later this year on C5 in a primetime weekday slot.
