Channel 4 is negotiating with the BBC to air The Great British Bake Off this year, according to a series of press reports.

The Sun has claimed that C4 has begun “high-level talks and legal discussions” to enable the Love Productions format to air in 2017. An agreement would need to be struck to circumnavigate a 12-month holdback clause in the indie’s original contract with the BBC.

Both broadcasters declined to comment on the reports, which follow January’s casting call for contestants to appear on the baking show.

After the format transferred from Channel 4 to the BBC, the former said it planned to air a 2017 celebrity version as part of its Stand Up To Cancer charity slate.
