Plebs indie Rise Films has hired Betty executive Kate Morey as head of popular factual and 7 Wonder head of specialist factual Steve Condie as an executive producer as it bulks up its factual team.

Both report directly to managing director Teddy Leifer.

At Betty Morey worked on Channel 4 series including the Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners brand, she has also worked on Twenty Twenty’s First Dates, and Shine’s Jews at Ten.

A former director for indies including Shine, Dragonfly, Love, Ricochet, and Maverick, Morey has also series produced Dragonfly’s One Born Every Minute, TLC’s Too Ugly For Love? and BBC1’s Famous, Rich and Jobless and Would Like To Meet Again.

She is joined in her newly-created role by Condie, who was head of specialist factual at 7 Wonder for just over two years.

He exec produced ITV’s Billy Connolly’s Tracks Across America, BBC3 documentary Obesity the Post Mortem, and BBC4 shows People’s History of Pop and Story of Skinhead.

He joined the indie from Oxford Scientific Films where he looked after history, arts and documentary series for the BBC and Channel 4.

He also spent several years at Newsnight working on the BBC2 show, along with documentaries with Simon Schama, Dominic Sandbrook, and Simon Reeve.

Leifer said: “Kate and Steve have great range and, culturally, that’s important at Rise - as we continue to grow a dynamic, multi-genre production business in the UK and US”.

Rise is also expanding its development team, as well as recruiting a chief operating officer and a head of production.

The company plans to grow from five to 11 full-time staff.
