Sky Atlantic has acquired US action drama Banshee, which is exec produced by True Blood and Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball.
The 10 x 60 minute series airs on HBO sister channel Cinemax in the US, and forms part of Sky Atlantic’s long running output deal with the Time Warner-owned broadcaster.
Banshee, which has been renewed for a second season by Cinemax, stars Rush’s Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of a small town sheriff in Philadelphia, where he continues his criminal activities while being pursued by the shady gangsters that he betrayed.
It also stars Charlie’s Angels star Ivana Milicevic, The Good Wife’s Frankie Faison, The Sopranos’ Matt Servitto and British actor Ben Cross.
The series will launch on Sky Atlantic HD in May and be made available via IPTV service Sky Go at the same time.
It was created by author David Schickler and is exec produced by Ball alongside Jonathan Trooper (Harvey), Peter Macdissi (True Blood) and Greg Yaitanes (Damages).
The acquisition is the latest high profile US series to head to Sky Atlantic, which is run by Elaine Pyke.
