Prepares 10pm bulletin
Sky News is capitalising on ITV’s decision to move the News at Ten with the launch of a revamped 10pm bulletin.
The 30-minute programme, which will be fronted by Anna Botting and Anna Jones from its Osterley headquarters, is the brainchild of director of content Cristina Nicolotti Squires, who joined earlier this year.
In a note to staff Nicolotti Squires said “ITV’s scheduling has given us a real opportunity to shine… We want Sky’s News at 10 to be seen as an authoritative alternative to the terrestrial news offerings.”
The “smart, polished, precise” seven-day bulletin will air without adverts, a move which was characterised as a “significant investment” for the broadcaster.
Among those set to appear include economics editor Ed Conway, special correspondent Alex Crawford, political editor Faisal Islam and foreign affairs editor Dominic Waghorn.
“It will be VT-led, with a high story count and an ambition for the best-produced news content on television,” added Nicolotti Squires.
Nightly Show
The opportunity has presented itself after ITV opted to launch daily entertainment format The Nightly Show at 10pm, pushing its news bulletin back to 10.30pm.
In an interview with The Guardian, political editor Robert Peston claimed that the decision would be reversed if the Second Act Productions show failed to cut through.
“If it goes incredibly well, then that’s great for the news because it will bring us a bigger audience at 10.30pm. And if it doesn’t, then the truth is we’ll revert back to 10 o’clock,” Peston told the newspaper.
