The creator of The Killing and Red Production Company are to forge closer ties following a restructure of StudioCanal’s TV business.
StudioCanal, which is owned by French pay-TV broadcaster group Canal+, has split up its production and distribution divisions in order to develop more series for European and US broadcasters.
Happy Valley and Last Tango In Halifax indie Red will work closely with fledgling Scandinavian producer SAM Productions, which was formed by The Killing creator Søren Sveistrup, Borgen creator Adam Price and Melancholia producer Meta Louise Foldager.
They will be joined by German-based producer Tandem Communications, responsible for NBC crime drama Crossing Lines.
The three production companies will report to StudioCanal chief operating officer Romain Bessi.
Separately, the company is consolidating its distribution business and has hired former Shine International senior vice president of sales and head of EMEA Katrina Neylon to run it. She will report to StudioCanal’s president of international marketing and distribution Rodolphe Buet.
“This new organisation is a step forward in developing our TV series activity both in production and distribution,” said StudioCanal chairman and chief executive Olivier Courson.
“This is also a real strategic and ambitious move for Tandem to further develop and produce more international content with European and US partners.”
